Dirk Schiemann, born in Dinslaken Germany in 1970, started to play backgammon tournaments at the age of 19. After winning various regional tournaments he started to travel to many international tournaments and became a professional backgammon player. Among others he won in Rio de Janeiro and Lugano and finished 3rd at the world championship in Monte Carlo twice. Between 1999 and 2005 he was among the top ten giants of Backgammon being nr. 3 Giant in 2003. He then took a break from Backgammon to play poker professionally. In 2018 he resumed his backgammon career mainly as a teacher but also to play live tournaments. He became World Team Champion in 2018 as number one player for Germany. After that he won the Bahamas Invitational and in 2019 the Porta Nigra Invitational in Trier.
